Despite countless decades of research and practice in mental health, there is no universal approach to psychotherapy that works for every person in every situation. Choosing the right therapist with the right expertise is the first step in finding a path to mental wellness. Oftentimes, that therapist is someone with highly specialized training and experience – a particular set of skills that takes years of dedication and sacrifice to obtain.
Leading clinical psychologist Jennifer Sweeton was dubbed a “world-renowned trauma treatment expert” by PESI, one of the world’s largest education companies for mental health professionals. According to one mental health professional Kevin, “She is this giant brain on two legs – able to take the most complex & intricate brain physiology systems & functions and bring them to the kitchen table”.
She is the sole developer of Neural Desensitization and Integration Training (known colloquially as NDIT), originally developed as a unique treatment for PTSD. An international expert on PTSD, Jennifer developed this highly specialized training program after more than 20 years of research and practice in clinical psychology and neuroscience. Dr. Sweeton teaches NDIT to other mental health professionals worldwide and uses NDIT tools and techniques to coach high performing career professionals seeking increased results through brain optimization.
According to Dr. Sweeton, evidence-based and evidence-informed trauma treatment is critical to healing. However, despite their heavy research support, sometimes these approaches don’t work as well as we would expect them to work.
She believes this can happen due to trauma treatment approaches being implemented at the wrong time in the therapy process. In her experiences working with consultation groups, she observed that trauma therapies are often deployed before the client is ready to connect with the body and in turn connect with internal experiences and associated memories, making the treatment ineffective. The brain and the body need to be connected in order for trauma therapies to work. Dr. Sweeton further explains these insights on her YouTube channel in this video.

Jennifer hopes to reach many through her training, writing, and consulting to share the healing power of neuroscience beyond her personal reach. Apart from sharing her knowledge through videos and seminars, she’s been busy writing best-selling books on the topics of trauma and neuroscience.
Her 2019 release, the Trauma Treatment Toolbox, is already an Amazon #1 Best-Seller in Clinical Psychology and Cognitive Psychology. Her most recent book, Eight Key Brain Areas of Mental Health and Illness, has been named the Amazon #1 New Release in Cognitive Psychology after its November 2021 release. This book explains the main areas of the brain and their involvement in mental health and illness.
Dr. Sweeton’s contributions to the field have uniquely bridged brain science with psychotherapy through digestible teaching of trauma therapy techniques scientifically proven to heal the brain.
