The Highly Talented Interior Designer Joshua Jones Shares His Journey

The highly talented and incredible interior designer, Joshua Jones, founded an online design studio, JJones Design Co. His business has been running successfully for over seven and a half years and it serves clients from all over the world.

After growing up in Southern California, Joshua Jones has lived in various places including Oregon, Seattle, Orange County, Vancouver, and San Francisco. Last year, he returned to Seattle and settled down for good.

After studying business and urban planning at Western Oregon University, he changed his major to interior design and transferred to the Art Institute of Seattle. Upon graduation, he earned a bachelor’s degree in interior  design.

Having worked in the e-design industry for over 7 and a half years now, he is well-versed in the subject since it was relatively new when he started his business. Many people did not know how e-design works or how it could benefit them, and he took on the task of needing to educate people as part of growing his firm.

In this process, he learned much about what works and what doesn’t, improving his business based on feedback from clients and colleagues. Early in the process, there were many challenges and struggles. However, after years of effort and patience, the business he desired finally came to fruition. As a result, he gained recognition, including exposure on blogs, magazines, and social media channels.

In the past seven and a half years, he has completed over 500 E-design projects. His work has appeared in House Beautiful magazine, Business of Home, CNN, Apartment Therapy, Hunker, MyDomaine, and Strategist. He will also be featured in a book due out in fall 2022.

Joshua revealed early in his career that he experienced discrimination because of his Deafness. Regardless of where he went, the response was always the same: his hearing problem was more important to people than his work and talent.

Jones faced a lot of obstacles and discrimination at work as a Deaf individual. According to him, “All the firms I interviewed with were more interested in how we would communicate than what I offered and how we would work well together.”

Jones, however, was transformed by these adverse circumstances into the successful entrepreneur he is today. In each case, Jones describes the frustration he experienced. Finally, his partner, Jeffry Kahle, developed a solution to help him work with his Deafness. He suggested he start an online business to help clients decorate and design their spaces. This way, he will be able to connect with people both domestically and internationally and overcome the challenge of direct communication.

The power we possess in many situations is often underestimated. By taking appropriate action, we can prevent unnecessary suffering. Dispose of anything outside your control and focus on your strengths and what you can do, instead of what you can’t.

According to Jones, this philosophy guided him out of troubled waters and helped him get back on his feet. He says that if you’re optimistic and persevere, you can achieve anything.
