No human is an island. What we achieve is never achieved by us alone. Still, arrogance and pride can deter people from giving credit where it’s due. However, the realization that our achievements are a product of more than just our struggle is a grounding experience allowing us to be grateful for the reasons that make it possible for us to succeed. Makeba White Chanay is an extraordinary woman who has made a name for herself as a business visionary and community leader, yet she remains humble.
She is the force behind B1 Ventures & Holdings, Inc., a healthcare management firm headquartered in Pearl, Mississippi, and HER Philosophy, a ministry, movement, and lifestyle that encourages people to realize their potential despite life’s inevitable challenges.
Born and raised in Forest, Mississippi, Makeba dreamed of becoming an entrepreneur, having witnessed her grandfather’s entrepreneurship. As a woman belonging to a minority, she realized this wouldn’t be easy but remained dedicated to her dreams. Her faith in God empowered her to overcome the hurdles and turn struggles into strengths by His grace and blessings.
Motivated to turn her dream into reality regardless of the setbacks, She graduated from Hinds Community College with a degree in Practical Degree. Additionally, she received a Nursing License from the Mississippi State Board of Nursing. With a passion for success and her resolution to help others succeed along the way, Makeba was ultimately able to bring her ideas to fruition with undeterred determination and efforts.
Today, she is the Chairperson of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of B1 Ventures and Holdings. The three entities of her business are committed to making lives better for others. B1 Nursing Care provides specialized home care services to the elderly and disabled. Whereas Mississippi School of Health Services & Careers offers educational opportunities to students and guides them on career paths that ensure their success.
Having witnessed the hardships of belonging to a minority, Makeba aims to uplift others through the non-profit 501c3, B1 Foundation supporting students through scholarships and providing opportunities to the unhoused segment of the community. Furthermore, with her business endeavors, Makeba hopes to be a source of inspiration and support to people who have the drive to realize their potential amidst unfavorable situations.
Besides being a celebrated businesswoman, Makeba is a wife, mother, and grandmother who is grateful for her family’s continuous support and contribution toward her remarkable success. She is an inspiration to many women who want to follow her example by not limiting themselves and refusing to settle for anything less than what they deserve.
Makeba aspires to continue to grow by expanding her business, B1 Ventures & Holdings, to the adjoining states of Arkansas, Alabama, and Louisiana to reach out to as many people as possible to provide them with the opportunities to live better lives.
