Carla’s life has been an adventurous one from the start. A young woman working in one of London’s skyscrapers as a broker, she longed for a different life, one that was full of purpose and enabled her to explore her passion for the oceans. Carla feels more comfortable in water than on land. She expresses her love for sharks and the oceans whenever she gets the chance. She says, “When I’m down there with the sharks, the rays, and the underwater characters, I feel disconnected from the rest of the world, and I feel totally at one with all of nature.” She states that her passion for experiencing the underwater world grew when she swarmed with sharks for the first time. Far from being scared, she was completely relaxed and at peace. In that particular moment of revelation, she knew what to do – she felt compelled to change the world’s inaccurate perceptions of sharks and their clichéd human misrepresentation.
Carla believes understanding aquatic life is necessary to connect with nature, locals, and wildlife. Swimming with marine mammals is a spiritual moment that gives you an adrenaline rush.
