When you see an artist with a brush in his hands, expect anything. When you see an artist in a doctor’s gown with surgical instruments in his hands, expect more than anything; just imagine the combination it makes; a doctor and an artist! Dr. Ross Blagg is one such artist with surgical instruments. His canvas is the human body. Dr. Blagg beautifies them using his talent and skills he has cultivated over a lifetime of learning.
He is so passionate about his work that he doesn’t wait for people to drop by his office. With his project Plastic Surgery Road Trip or “PSRT”, he finds people across the country who have already revamped their own lives and who need plastic surgery to help complete their journeys. Along with friends he has met all over the world, he takes an American road trip to meet each new patient, and then spends a day in their life before offering them a surgery that could change their life for the better. PSRT is currently airing on YouTube and anyone can nominate a “road trip candidate” at www.lyfeinplastic.com.
Dr. Blagg grew up on a farm in Arkansas. As an infant, he was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect, requiring open heart surgery. Subsequent follow-ups with his Cardiologist played a vital role in his interest in medicine.
As a teenager interested in medicine, Ross discovered plastic and reconstructive surgery and was amazed at the wide range of operations a plastic surgeon could perform. Given his artistic endeavors, he loved the idea, which to him felt like a “fusion of art, medicine, and science.”
“I was hooked,” says Dr. Blagg, recalling what made him choose plastic surgery.
Dr. Blagg has many interests. He also loves the ocean and sharks. He has been scuba diving since the age of 13 years. He is also into mixed media art, and he loves to paint. Apart from this, he has created ‘The After Surgery Supplement,’ which is a supplement to take after surgery for a quicker recovery. And, of course, his biggest recent project, Plastic Surgery Road Trip is his current passion.
Dr. Ross Blagg has explored the limits of art and sciences by mingling both disciplines, and we are totally loving it!
