In 2017, two hodophiles (n. one who loves to travel), Julie and Zach Ruhl, tied the knot and embarked on a new journey to make the most of their life together. One of the most significant aspects of their relationship was traveling together and exploring new places. It wasn’t a surprise when they decided to take a risk – selling everything they owned, buying a Volkswagen Eurovan, and hitting the road. Alongside this development, the duo also created a blog, the Ruhls of the Roads, that helps them make money as they continue their nomadic lifestyle with their two-year-old daughter Indie.
Zach and Julie have explored most of the United States, Canada and Europe in the last five years. In 2020, they traveled across New Zealand in their van; however, their expedition paused with the COVID-19 outbreak, returning home to Minnesota. Since the world has opened back up, they are back to globe-trotting, hoping to see and experience more beautiful places and cultures.
Let’s take a look at some of the travel destinations that Zach and Julie have fallen in love with:
Glacier National Park, Montana
Glacier National Park offers so much, from snow-capped mountains to luscious waterfalls. Zach and Julie have been there multiple times in spring and summer; their favorite sites include Grinnell Glacier, Iceberg Lake, Cracker Lake and Lake McDonald. The national park is easily the Ruhl’s one of the most favoured destinations in the US.
For Zach and Julie, Milford Sound was one of the best destinations in New Zealand. The Milford Sound cruise was the perfect way to take in the stunning views of Mitre Peaks and Bowen Falls and witness majestic seals, dolphins, and whales in action.
“A Halong Bay cruise experience is one of the most incredible things you can do in Vietnam,” says Zach. The entire trip was full of action. Zach and Julie had to pinch themselves to ensure they weren’t dreaming because Halong Bay was that beautiful and memorable.
Norway is one of the favorite places Zach and Julie have ever been to, almost rivaling their love for New Zealand. The heavenly Norwegian landscapes and fjords are bound to leave anyone speechless and are relatively easy to navigate around, even if you are traveling with kids.
