In a world where people often surrender to adversities, specific individuals rise as epitomes of resilience and strength, inspiring many along their journey. One such shining example is Dr. Heena Sinha, the co-founder of My Second Home, a remarkable venture aimed at transforming the living conditions of disabled individuals.
Born into a world filled with hardships and poverty, young Heena confronted challenges that could have broken her spirit. From facing harassment at the tender age of 13 to battling depression, her childhood was marred by tribulations. Yet, she refused to succumb to these adversities. Instead, her experiences imbued her with a spirit of resilience that propelled her to become an inspirational figure for countless women across the globe.
Her relentless efforts gave birth to My Second Home, a National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) funded venture that provides comfortable and homely accommodation for disabled individuals. Located in Queensland and Victoria, My Second Home offers 10 short-term and 10 long-term houses, creating a true sense of belonging for those in need.
Not content with just revolutionizing the accommodation facilities for disabled individuals, Dr. Sinha’s focus also extends to the domain of artificial intelligence. She is presently working on a project, Simple AI, to make AI tools accessible to everyone. Despite her myriad roles as a caring mother, a loving partner, a mentor, and an entrepreneur, she constantly strives for balance and emphasizes never giving up.
Her childhood experiences of harassment and abuse led her to become an advocate against Childhood Sexual Abuse (CSA). Recently, she has been proactive in voicing her concerns about CSA on various media platforms in India. She views this as a crucial aspect of her mission, and having her story recognized on esteemed international platforms would be a significant boost to her personal branding.
A crucial part of her journey in advocating for CSA awareness was her participation in a beauty pageant. Against the odds, she mustered the courage to join the pageant, emerging as a finalist. She saw this as an opportunity to reach out to CSA survivors and those presently undergoing similar experiences. Her ultimate aim is to assure them that their past does not define their future and that they can accomplish anything they set their minds to.
The road to her professional success was fraught with challenges. After losing her job due to medical complications right before the birth of her first child, Dr. Sinha, along with her husband, started their own support coordination business. Utilizing her expertise from her tenure at NDIS, she guided individuals with disabilities to maximize their NDIS funding, connect with service providers, and develop the necessary skills to achieve their goals.
Even amid joyous moments, Dr. Heena has faced cyberbullying. Amid the celebration of her dream wedding recreation, she received hurtful messages on social media. But, she stood strong, promoting kindness and compassion, and advocating for a safer online environment.
Dr. Heena’s story is not just about overcoming challenges, but also about thriving amid them. It’s about rising above adversities, harassment, and failure to create a world filled with love, inclusivity, and compassion.
You can follow Dr. Sinha’s inspiring journey on LinkedIn and Instagram and join her initiatives. Her life stands as a testament to the power of resilience, grit, and unwavering determination in the face of adversity. She sends out a strong message that one’s past does not have to dictate the future. And through her actions, she not only epitomizes this belief but also instills it in the hearts of those who look up to her.
